Worship is the heart of our life together. Our services are traditional and dignified, and intimately involve members of the congregation as lay readers, acolytes, and chalice bearers. The Altar and Flower Guilds invite both men and women to assist in readying the Church for worship, and a small cadre of Lay Eucharistic Ministers regularly take communion to sick and shut-in parishioners. The basic books we use as resources for our services are The Bible, The Book of Common Prayer, 1979 and the Hymnal, 1982.
Music is both integral to our worship, especially at the 10:30 a.m. service, and considered by members and visitors to be one of Trinity’s greatest strengths. Under the leadership of our Director of Music Ministries, an adult choir, two children’s choirs, a hand bell choir, and our celebrated organ (and organist) provide music chosen to complement and enhance the readings and rhythms of the liturgical year. Because of a warm relationship with the nearby Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and the Community Music School of the Piedmont (headquartered in Cox Hall), we are able to call upon the talents of string, wind, and brass players and percussionists as needed. The adult choir periodically presents a concert of special music, such as Fauré or Rutter Requiems, and outside groups, drawn by the Church’s beauty and extraordinary acoustics, frequently offer concerts as a gift to the larger community.
Our music is largely traditional, and our congregational singing comes from the Hymnal, 1982, with some lively additions from Lift Every Voice and Sing (copies of which are available in each pew).
We celebrate Holy Eucharist at 8:00 a.m. (Rite I) and 10:30 a.m. (Rite II) each Sunday, and at noon on Wednesday (Rite II). From time to time, we have a service of Morning Prayer or an Evensong. During Holy Week, and on other significant occasions of the liturgical year, we hold many special services.
