Upperville is a charming small village nestled in the foothills on the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the heart of Virginia’s Hunt Country. The village contains many late Eighteenth Century and early Nineteenth Century houses, as well as later structures, and is listed on the Virginia and National Registers of Historic Places. Washington, D.C., with its many cultural opportunities and advantages is 50 miles to the east, Middleburg, is 9 miles to the east, with the thriving historic town of Winchester is 20 miles to the west.
Made attractive by extensive horse and cattle farms, beautiful views, and a pervading aura of history, the area faces development pressures from the expansive economic and population growth generated by the Washington metropolitan area. Upperville is located on the northern edge of Fauquier County at the border with Loudoun County, which for a number of years has been one of the country’s fastest growing counties. Fauquier has had a much slower rate of growth, and northern Fauquier County is a leader in the nation in acreage placed in conservation easements. Growth will continue to be a challenge to local governments and to Trinity in the future.
